Many people say “but, my childhood was fine!”.
Well, maybe it was and maybe it wasn’t.
What we have found is that for many of our clients, their early life experiences are lost in the mists of time in one way or another.
When bad things have happened in early life, you may have done one of two things:
- Forgotten it completely…put it right out of your mind.
- Minimised or normalised it…that happens to everyone right?
To expand a little, we are not in the business of recovering lost memories; however after talking to a client and enquiring about their current situation and relationships, it often becomes obvious that not all in the garden was rosy. The evidence is in their current state of depression, anxiety , addictions, relationship issues or physical illness.
There is also a large study on Adverse Childhood Events ( ACE); this study demonstrates that there are much higher rates of mental and physical illness in people who have experienced these adverse events.
It doesn’t matter if you don’t remember.
We play detective together and never attempt to force a memory. You will remember if and when you are ready, and if you do we will help you deal with it. However, the robustness of TRTP allows us to make progress whether you remember everything or not.
Finally, TRTP is an amazing process, but it is not suitable for every person every time.
If it is appropriate, we will refer client to a more qualified and/or experienced professional. In our group of TRTP practitioners we have a great variety of experienced practitioners including clinical psychologists and psychiatrists.
